Battlefield 9:00 A.M. – 5:00 P.M. Battlefield Museum Open
10:00 A.M. – 4:00 P.M. Battle of Perryville Interpretive Movie The new Battle of Perryville interpretive movie will be playing every hour in Civil War Hall.
10:00 A.M. – 1:00 P.M. Immersion Battlefield Tour with Doug Lippman The tour begins under the small shelter with a brief introduction to the battle. The battlefield walk will begin with Donelson’s attack, and then move up the valley to Maney’s position and end at Parson’s Battery position on the top of the open knob. The tour includes a brief discussion of the nature of rookies "seeing the elephant" for the first time. After cresting Parson's Hill, the tour will descend down into the valley of the cornfield and across to Starkweather's Hill.
The tour will then proceed back to the visitor’s center and give everyone a chance to use the rest room and get a drink. Once the tour resumes the next stop will be the optical illusion at Lumsden's battery. The tour moves across the CS lines and up the hill to Jones’s advance. The tour is now on Loomis' Hill, and will discuss the action there. Particular emphasis will be placed on Cleburne's new tactics being used in his success, and the friendly fire from CS batteries on Cleburne's men. A discussion of the importance of Sleettown will occur at this point as well. The tour then proceeds to Squire Bottoms house with an explanation of its significance, then follows the creek back. When passing below Lumsden's battery, the tour crosses the road and continues to the Widow Gibson's home and explains her situation, as a civilian caught in the battle. The tour will then return to the visitor’s center and questions will be entertained during the return trip.
10:30 A.M. – Noon The Fight for Loomis Heights with Kurt Holman The tour will begin under the small picnic shelter with a brief description of the battle. This tour will give a detailed description of the action of General Alexander McCook’s I Corps left flank and the fighting between divisions under Kentuckians Lovell H. Rousseau and Simon B. Buckner.
11:00 A.M. – 12:30 P.M. The Fight for the Open Knob with Don Rightmyer This tour will give a detailed description of the action of General Alexander McCook’s I Corps right flank. The group will be taken up to the "Open Knob", where Confederate General George Maney's attack on the Union Brigades of William Terrill and John Starkweather will be discussed.
Noon – 2:00 P.M. Lunch will be available to purchase in town. Perryville Lion’s Club will be cooking adjacent to the Chaplin River Bridge.
1:00 P.M. – 2:00 P.M. Starkweather’s Position with Chris Kolakowski General Alexander McCook said that John Starkweather and his brigade “saved my left” during the battle of Perryville. This tour will encompass Starkweather's positions, plus illustrate who these men were and how they helped salvage the Union army's fortunes at Perryville.
Merchant’s Row
1:30 P.M. – 2:15 P.M. Historic Merchant’s Row with Joni House For the residents of ante-bellum and post-Civil War Perryville, Merchant’s Row, the thriving commercial district provided a central location for citizens to buy goods, sell wares, and catch up on the local news. Situated next to the Chaplin River, Merchant’s Row once housed businesses ranging from a blacksmith shop, photography studio, post office, general store, drug store, and more. This tour will discuss the architectural style of Merchant’s Row as well as the significance it played in the battle.
2:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. Concert on the River with Vicki DeLys Hyde Vicki DeLys Hyde has been a professional harpsichordist since 1964 and has studied with Albert Fuller of Juilliard and Aston Magna Conservatories and the New York Philharmonic. She has performed with major symphony orchestras throughout Florida, California and New York. Her program is "The Top 40 Hits of the 17th and 18th Centuries", including familiar works still popular today with interesting and humorous commentary about the composers - Bach, Mozart, Handel, Scarlatti, Telemann, Couperin, and others.
